I am most interested in Graphic Design for social change – work that takes on a ‘wicked problem’ and provides a solution that makes the world a better place. Here you can see some examples of projects that I have worked on in this area.

Concrete Crackdown

A 1-week political campaign to persuade the University Estates team to prioritise sustainable construction.

This was a team project as part of the ‘Grand Challenges’ event hosted by Exeter University. As the only creative student on the team, I was responsible for producing all of the comms + visual materials.

Y7 Summit 2021

The Y7 is an annual Summit that brings young people together to discuss policy and make recommendations to the G7 leaders. In this way, the Y7 is a channel for young people to influence decision-making at the highest level. In 2021, the G7 is being hosted in Cornwall, UK.

This year, I am on the ‘Implementation Taskforce’ – a team of young people responsible for hosting and promoting the 2021 Summit.

How Can You Save Lives?

A talk / workshop that I designed and hosted, introducing people to the field of ‘Effective Altruism’. To promote the event, I created a 2-week digital and print campaign.

Effective Altruism is about answering one simple question: how can we use our resources to help others the most? In short, it is a research field / social movement of people committed to using evidence and rationality to do as much good as possible.

The talk was very successful, with a full attendance and great feedback!

The Green Party

Producing print materials for one of the Green Party’s stronghold constituencies.

From 2018-2020, I was the primary designer for all print materials, which have had a combined reach of ~25,000 households. Though I was originally a volunteer, the Green Party has been one of my most consistent paying clients of the past few years.

2017-2020

Extinction Rebellion

Graphics, banners and protest demonstrations for Extinction Rebellion, the world’s best-known environmental protest group.

Since the first mass ‘Extinction Rebellion’ protest in London (April 2019), I have been involved with local XR groups in Falmouth, Norwich and Manchester. The protests put an emphasis on creativity and visual impact, so this has been an opportunity for me to create custom apparel, props and banners.

2019-2020

Mother Nature

An exhibition concept that reminds people how beautiful, but also fragile, nature can be, and encourages them to consider their relationship with the natural world.

It was developed following a rigorous process of study and hands-on ‘material experimentation’ with mycelium and mushroom.

2020

Wildlife bridges

A campaign to raise awareness of the effectiveness of ‘Wildlife Bridges’ as a way to protect wild animals and connect their habitats.

2018

The Oracle

A digital experience that confronts people with the reality of their own data.

This project poses two questions: if people knew how their data compared to other people’s, would they be happy with the results? And could / should we use this data to influence their behaviour?
